live from the terror dome

am back - I try not to abuse the privilege but I log on at the local library - which has a two hour, max limit, but there's workarounds which I may have to rely on more as I continue posting.

I'd intended of course, on getting a cable line but f---king time/warner wants 80 a month for tv and net - and that's the introductory rate - where the hell is congress on that deal?  and there's no alternatives because they have crushed all the competition by offering artificially low rates in the past.

As far as google goes - we'll see. I never cared for WYSIWYG html  - it's always too heavy a foot print, and it takes too long to load, it crashes too easy and basically it's is not elegant coding.   Eg the header should be centered but apparently there's no easy way to do it - so I have to go into the code - find the header amid all the extra crap and rewrite it manually.

I mean I'd want to know what the  html was saying anyway - viz what it tells the robots - and you know - it's something of a running joke the way people can fool the google bots into better portal spots - I mean when the first five entries all lead to the same site - maybe that ought be looked into.

And today I found out that they won't host audio files which means they won't host video files - they say there's other sites that'll do it and then to link to them - but they are missing the point -intentionally - I'm not here because I want to do google a favor I'm here because, as Jerry Garcia said once  "It's nice to have a big company to kick around."    In other words I want the reliability and the innovation of a company with more money then god.

I can let the templates and such go. It's probably something of an ongoing decision - just how much they want to host - because the hosting services support with adverts - but personally I'm not sure how Rapidshare etc make their money. There must be some sort of profit line because so many people do it.
One can suggest that at least one reason they won't host audio is because of copyright problems - which don't concern me.  google gets flak on account of it's search engines not being censored as to warez - but to do so would be extremely difficult - what I wonder is how can they get into the cloud concept if they are basically doing nothing but running a glorified email server.
And with Apple - they have been real slow to talk about the successor to Mobile me and especially about the specifics. Worst case scenario is a post Job's coup and it gets taken over by an Amelio or a Skulley - those guys were the pits - maybe they could do lunch and had nice families but they just did not know what they were doing. Am waiting obviously, to see  what happens there.

BTW - as far as this cloud thing goes - people are not stupid - it is putting a lot of faith in a corporation to do what they want and god knows they have not earned it. You can shove it down their throats like everything else I suppose but you're not going to make friends that way - one can compare the corporations to the colonists in the old third world - surrounded by the glares and hatred and living in sealed communities
and quick with the guns - but do we really want to live like that?

And conversely lets say you're not a barricade stormer - in a way thats a bigger threat to the nobles then the rabble rousers - because there the goal is not to storm the castle but to build another one  - because - to continue the analogy the reactionaries must vulnerable point is when they are outside the media shell - outside  the gated communities and daisy chains of congratulators.

After twenty years of the battle we now can almost look at it, as a form  of warfare and as such what we have to do is lure the bad guys  outside of their protected environments  where we can immobilize them.  The irony  is that what we have to attain is a free market - but if one man has a submachine gun and another has a broomstick - such is not exactly a fair fight, so like humans have always done we have to use ourbrains to overcome the logistical liabilities we face.

And If I may speculate - the thing I find weird at present is the real battle lines have not been  drawn. Let's hope it never gets to actual violence - it shouldn't - but there are many, good, or at least semi-good :-) people that haven't been forced into any kind of side taking.  That's where the critical decisions are going to be made. The extremes are dominating the conversation at present  but it could well be that  those who want to  have it both ways find that option becoming more limited.

aS  well   remember history is a long time. consider the revolutions of europe in 1848 - which in a way were quelled but sooner or later something had to be done about austriahungry and something had to be done about the russian empire and all the other empires and that something was the first world war. Britain, thanks to Lord Russel was comparatively unscathed and unpunished for her sins  but that did not immunize her from the war madness.
